Michael Kimmel's books include Changing Men (1987), Men Confront Pornography (1990), Men's Lives (9th edition, 2012), Against the Tide: Profeminist Men in the United States, 1776 - 1990 (1992), The Politics of Manhood (1996), Manhood: A Cultural History (1996), and The Gendered Society (5th edition, 2013), and the best-seller Guyland (2008).He is the Founding Editor of Men and Masculinities, an interdisciplinary scholarly journal, and co-edited the Handbook of Studies on Men and Masculinities (2004) and the Encyclopedia on Men and Masculinities (2004). The latter was awarded "Best in Reference 2004" by the New York Pubic Library Association.
His current research is "Angry White Men," a comparative study of the extreme right, White Supremacists, and neo-Nazis in the United States, Germany, and Scandinavia.
He consults regularly with the Ministries for Gender Equality in Norway and Sweden, and delivered the International Women's Day lecture at the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, the European Commission, and the European Space Agency. He's received numerous awards, including SWS "Feminist Lecturer" in 1999, and he was named "Feminist Mentor" by SWS in 2010. He is a founder and Spokesperson for the National Organization for Men Against Sexism (NOMAS) and lectures extensively on campuses and in corporations in the U.S. and abroad.
