Gibbon offers an explanation for why the Roman Empire fell, a task made difficult by a lack of comprehensive written sources, though he was not the only historian to tackle the subject.[8]
According to Gibbon, the Roman Empire succumbed to barbarian invasions in large part due to the gradual loss of civic virtue among its citizens.[9] They had become weak, outsourcing their duties to defend their Empire to barbarian mercenaries, who then became so numerous and ingrained that they were able to take over the Empire. Romans, he believed, had become effeminate, unwilling to live a tougher, "manly" military lifestyle. In addition, Gibbon argued that Christianity created a belief that a better life existed after death, which fostered an indifference to the present among Roman citizens, thus sapping their desire to sacrifice for the Empire. He also believed its comparative pacifism tended to hamper the traditional Roman martial spirit. Finally, like other Enlightenment thinkers, Gibbon held in contempt the Middle Ages as a priest-ridden, superstitious, dark age. It was not until his own age of reason and rational thought, it was believed, that human history could resume its progress.[10]

That is a sincere question. Because every time I read The Root, or News One, or any of a number of other oeuvres penned by blacks, I am always struck by the uniqueness of their prose. That is to say they all kind of read like they were written by the exact same person.
Consider the gem below, pried loose from the home page of Carol Moseley Braun's 2011 bid for the mayorship of Chicago. (She got 9%; Rahm Emmanuel got over 55% of the vote).
Carol Moseley-Braun was the first black woman ever to sit in the United States Senate, from 1993 to 1999. She was one of only seven negroes to occupy a Senate seat since Reconstruction in 1870. Of those seven, Barack Hussein Obama was the most recent, while Miss Moseley Braun was number four.
Today in the 100-strong U.S. Senate, there are zero blacks, and only 17 females in that august chamber.

Notum Bonum: The New York Times was having convulsions about "Rising Tide" as soon as it was published. A quick search of the Times' records reveals that Stoddard's book is mentioned in 285 articles, the most recent being an August, 2012 book review of some Indian author (i.e. Pankaj Mishra, whose work is reviewed in "New Book In Battle Over East Vs. West") who has the pugnacity to write about the Western dominance of the planet that was so obvious to people like Stoddard a century ago.

More than any other nation on Earth, America has constantly drawn strength and spirit from wave after wave of immigrants. Of course, the path has not always run smooth. Some Americans have met each group of newcomers with suspicion and violence and discrimination. So great was the hatred of Irish immigrants 150 years ago that they were greeted with signs that read, "No Dogs or Irish." So deep was the distrust of immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe at the beginning of this century that they were forced to take literacy tests specifically designed to keep them out of America. Eventually, the guarantees of our Constitution and the better angels of our nature prevailed over ignorance and insecurity, over prejudice and fear.
But now we are being tested again by a new wave of immigration larger than any in a century, far more diverse than any in our history. Each year, nearly a million people come legally to America. Today, nearly one in 10 people in America was born in another country; one in 5 schoolchildren are from immigrant families. Today, largely because of immigration, there is no majority race in Hawaii or Houston or New York City. Within 5 years, there will be no majority race in our largest State, California. In a little more than 50 years, there will be no majority race in the United States. No other nation in history has gone through demographic change of this magnitude in so short a time....

Addendum : Jamie Foxx on SNL this past Saturday 8 December, 2012. In his monologue - in which Mister Foxx gets more ethnic than you have probably ever seen him - he promotes his new role in Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained." Watch the way the audience reacts when JF says: "And [in this movie] I get to kill ALL duh white people. How great is that?!"
These are the type of people the Times pretends to care about more than practically anyone. The caption reads: "Steven Dent, who lives in Red Hook Houses in Brooklyn, suffered carbon monoxide poisoning after he used the oven to heat his apartment."
Not once is the word "white," "mestizo" or even "race" used in this article. Instead, the disingenuous white liberal (DWL) who penned it, Rachel M. Swarms, refers to little Geovany as "Spanish speaking," as though that were the only thing that distinguished him from the Carr's own biological children.

Korea, 1951: The Chinese army drops brown monotone leaflets depicting a group of black prisoners of war. One plays an accordion, a second plays a guitar. The leaflet is signed by the “Central Political Bureau of the Korean People’s Army.” The text reads:

Surprisingly, very few leaflets targeted African-American troops. The Chinese and North Vietnamese would produce dozens of racially divisive leaflets in the 1960s, but the North Koreans showed little interest in attacking that “soft underbelly” of America. There is one known case of six American prisoners released on 7 January 1951 and sent back to their own lines carrying three North Korean leaflets that read:

Another Korea War-era leaflet that uses race as a theme is signed by the Korean People’s Army and the Chinese People’s Volunteers. A picture on the cover depicts Private First Class James Wilson shaking hands with his Communist captors:

The leaflet goes on to report lynchings and crimes against black men both in the United States and in the U.S. Army in Korea. It discusses politics in the United States and points out how few black Congressmen and Senators hold office. It reminds the black soldiers of how few black officers have been commissioned in the military.
