New York Times genius and black-shirt op-ed contributor Thomas Friedman gives us an insightful article in the opinion section of today's Sunday New York Times today entitled "Why Nations Fail."
Basing his assessment of current global inequality on the probing works of such illuminaries as Tatu Vanhanen ("IQ And The Wealth Of Nations"), and Richard Lynn ("IQ And Global Inequality"), Mr. Friedman make a daring foray into a race-realism explanation for why the North is rich, the South is poor, and Sub-Saharan Africa is still in the Stick Age.
Friedman's break with the universalist egalitarian environmentalist consensus made quite a splash among his peers, who have long claimed that Haiti is poor because of the legacy of slavery and Western dominance, and who have claimed that American blacks continue to "lag" behind all other groups in scholastic achievement not because of the way their brains are shaped, but because of the legacy of slavery.
Today, Thomas Friedman went out on a limb - risking life career and limb - by suggesting that the truth is more biological in nature than social. Friedman even went so far in his article today as to claim that Samuel Morton was right, and that Stephen Jay Gould was a lying little weasel for writing "The Mismeasure of Man."
