The NYT Says: "Only We Are Cool Enough To Publish the Real N-Word"

In a display of unbelievable phoniness, the mentally deranged crypto-fascist four eyes at America's newspaper of record published an editorial on page A22 of today's national edition entitled "That's Not Twain," in which they predictably not only condemned the censorship of the "nigger" in Huck Finn, but also actually published the offending word in its entirety. The Times is in essence saying that because they are so morally uprighteous, and so down with the brothers, they and only they are the only whites who can legitimately print the dreaded n-word uncensored; if, say, Dr. Laura or some other right wing hater dareth to utter it, then that is just proof of how unenlightened and racist they are.

Now, we knew that the New York Times was going to pull a stunt like this on the Twain censorship  issue, a sort of Don Imus Redux: a newspaper that spends so much time day in and day out groveling before and pandering to minorities - american blacks in particular - can afford to get a little ghetto on your ass from time to time. It shows how sincere they are.

"Next month, you will be able to buy the single- volume NewSouth Edition of Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” edited by Professor Alan Gribben of Auburn University at Montgomery. It differs from other editions of those books because Mr. Gribben has turned the word “nigger” — as used by Tom and Huck — into “slave.” Mr. Gribben has also changed “Injun” to Indian.

"We are horrified, and we think most readers, textual purists or not, will be horrified too. The trouble isn’t merely adulterating Twain’s text. It’s also adulterating social, economic and linguistic history. Substituting the word “slave” makes it sound as though all the offense lies in the “n-word” and has nothing to do with the institution of slavery." 

You see, the NYT is actually so angry about slavery, and the hateful evil white people like themselves responsible for it (let's not get into what really happened right now), that, well, they are just so mad that they're going for once to actually print the n-word,  just to show how angry they are about slavery. And to show how cool and genuine they are, too.
